Constructing Understanding

What an opportunity we have to launch students and their families on a lifetime journey as learners in a school setting - and to do it well. It is a responsibility we at Global take seriously!
At Global, we place equal value on two complementing approaches to learning, one that offers our students explicit strategy-based instruction and the other, a broad, constructivist approach that allows students to linger in the exploratory and discovery phases only later to arrive at the explicit ones. In school, we talk about these as the two triangles that make up a strong foundation for understanding.
In all we do, we aim to be purpose- more than results- driven and this takes time. And so we aim to go slow and deep. One of our favorite shared texts (Time to Teach, Time to Learn) urges us to bring the Go Slow! Children! mantra inside the building from its usual perch on the street corner. We believe it takes time and opportunity to develop learners who truly make meaning from their learning and that is our goal
